A Finnish architect and designer, Alvar Aalto was most known for his architecture, furniture, textiles, sculptures and glassware that featured designs that he considered ‘gesamtkunstwerk’ (translated as ‘total works of art’). First shown in 1936 at the Karhula-Iittala Glass Design Competition (where Aalto won first place), this series became a revolutionary statement due to their simple yet organic shapes. The design was inspired by waves (“aalto” in Finnish) in the water, and has since become a symbol Finnish design and one of the most famous glass designs in the world. Ideal for serving dry foods like fruits, nuts and candies, this versatile bowl makes a sleek addition to any table or home.
